Why an assessment centre, not just an appraisal file.
Seniority and appraisal history explain who is eligible. They do not explain who is ready. An assessment centre exists to answer the second question — in a form that is evidence-based, uniformly applied, and documented well enough to be defended two years later.
01
One Standard
Same test, same day, same scale. Every candidate in a cohort faces identical instruments, identical assessor panels and an identical rating scale. Variation in the process is the first thing a grievance points at; we remove it.
02
Evidence
Scores that trace to behaviour. Each rating traces back to something observed — a decision made in a situational exercise, a recommendation written in a case study, a rated response from a reporting authority. Impressions are not inputs.
03
Closure
A record that holds. Digitally signed individual reports, a password-protected consolidated file, an assessor panel under NDA and a confidentiality regime that permits no third-party disclosure of any kind.
Assessment Architecture
Four instruments. One composite score.
No single instrument is trusted on its own. Each measures something the others cannot see, and the composite is what gets reported.
-
Situational Analysis
Candidates work through an unfolding banking scenario — a branch under audit pressure, a stalled recovery, a customer escalation reaching the circle office.
- Reads Context
- Holds a Position
-
Case Study
A written business case drawn from banking reality: credit deterioration, branch turnaround, a compliance failure, a digital migration that has stalled.
- Structure of Thought
- Feasibility
-
Psychometric Test
A normed instrument mapping stable behavioural preferences onto the competency set, reported as a profile — interpreted alongside the other instruments, never read alone.
- Behavioural Profile
-
360° Feedback
Structured ratings from self, peers, reporting authority and junior colleagues, reported as a gap analysis across rater groups.

Competency Framework
Assessment is only as good as what it tests against.
We start from your existing scale-wise role expectations rather than importing a generic model, then define each competency in behaviours an assessor can actually observe and rate.
-
Long Term Vision
Reads beyond the immediate quarter; connects branch or vertical action to institutional direction; can describe a future state others will work towards.
-
Decision Making
Analyses, weighs and commits within a reasonable window; owns the consequence rather than routing it upward; distinguishes reversible calls from irreversible ones.
-
Goal Orientation
Sets targets that are specific and defended; converts them into plans with owners and dates; sustains commitment when the first approach fails.
-
Building Leaders
Identifies capability in others and invests in it; delegates work that develops rather than work that is merely offloaded; builds a bench, not a dependency.
-
Situational Judgement
Adjusts approach to context instead of applying one template; reads what a situation actually requires; picks up cues others miss.
Optional additions, by mandate
Added where the promotion scale carries a specific accountability — a Scale VI role owning a compliance mandate, for instance, should not be assessed on the same five competencies as a Scale IV branch head.
- Risk & Compliance Orientation
- Customer Centricity
- Digital & Data Fluency
- Stakeholder & Regulatory Communication
Scale-wise calibration
The competency set stays the same; what shifts is where the emphasis falls at each transition.
IV → V — Execution discipline, team building, judgement under operational pressure
V → VI — Cross-functional influence, resource trade-offs, developing other leaders
VI → VII — Institutional vision, governance posture, decisions with no clean answer
The clock, not the concept, is what fails.
Assessment centres rarely fail on design. They fail on a link that opened late, a candidate who never received credentials, a respondent list nobody chased. We run to a published countdown and report against it.
T − 07 days
Cohort Handover
Candidate list and contact details received from HR vertical. Panel, slots and system requirements confirmed.
T − 03 days
Whitelisting Window
Assessment links plus a dummy user ID and password issued to HR vertical, so the platform can be whitelisted before candidates arrive.
T − 02 days
Candidate Briefing
Individual credentials and guidelines sent to each candidate's official email. 360° respondent list and dates confirmed with the bank.
T − 1 hour
360° Goes Live
Evaluation links reach every respondent on the email IDs supplied, at least an hour before the window opens.
T − 20 min
Exam Link Activates
Not earlier. The interface carries the bank's logo, the candidate's name and staff number, and the assessment title in full.
T + 15 min
First Exception Report
List of candidates yet to log in goes to HR vertical, so the bank can intervene while intervention still helps.
10:00 & 15:00
Twice-Daily 360° Chase
Outstanding respondents reported to HR vertical morning and afternoon; reminders issued on the same rhythm until the evaluation closes.
On Closure
Written Confirmation
Formal confirmation that the assessment has closed, with attendance reconciliation against the original candidate list.
Live-day controls. A helpdesk staffed for the full assessment window, its number and email published to candidates in advance — not discovered on the day. A named escalation contact at AmpliSkill, reachable by the HR vertical throughout. Proctoring and session logs retained and available if a result is later questioned. A technical-failure protocol — reschedule or resume decided and communicated within 30 minutes, on a rule agreed before the cohort starts.
Two documents. Both defensible.
One report belongs to the candidate's file. The other belongs to the promotion committee. They are built to different purposes and released through different channels.
A · Per Candidate
Individual Report
- Cover carrying name, designation, staff number, scale, date of assessment and the head assessor's signature
- Summary table: test score, Assessor 1 and Assessor 2 ratings, received 360° ratings, and the averaged rating per competency
- Composite score placed against the agreed band structure
- 360° gap analysis by rater group, with a radar view of self versus peer, reporting authority and junior colleague
- Psychometric interpretation per competency, expressed as high-score and low-score behavioural patterns
- Development notes — the bridge into what happens after the result
B · Per Cohort
Consolidated Report
- S.No · Name · Staff ID · Designation · assessment score (of 15) · 360° score (of 5) · total (of 20)
- Password protected, with the password issued through a separate channel to named recipients only
- Digitally signed soft copies delivered to HR vertical by email
- Two colour hard copies, bound, delivered within the stipulated timeline
Assessor independence. Every candidate is rated by two independent assessors working from the same behavioural anchors. Where their ratings diverge beyond an agreed threshold, a third assessor reviews the evidence before the score is finalised. Divergence is logged, not smoothed over — a rating that was contested internally is a rating that will hold externally.
Assurance
Confidentiality is the product, not a clause.
A promotion assessment handles the most sensitive personnel data a bank generates. Our controls are written into the engagement, not left to good intentions.
-
Confidentiality
Results released only to named HR vertical recipients; No disclosure to any third party under any circumstance; Assessors and platform staff under individual NDA; Retention and destruction schedule fixed at contracting.
-
Information Security
Encrypted transfer of candidate and respondent data; Access-controlled storage with an audit log; Password-protected consolidated outputs; No candidate data used for any secondary purpose.
-
Panel Quality
Assessors qualified in behavioural assessment methods; Banking domain experience on every panel; Calibration session before each cohort; Conflict-of-interest declaration per candidate.
-
Assessor Independence
Two independent assessors rate every candidate from the same anchors; A third assessor reviews evidence beyond an agreed divergence threshold; Divergence is logged, not smoothed over.
